Ida Stankie

Obituary of Ida Lynn Stankie

Daughter of Mildred Jean (Botting) Stankie and Maynard Julius Stankie. Born in Espanola Ontario. Devoted wife of William John Dempsey, formerly of Stratford, Ontario.

Her dream to be a nurse was realized upon graduating from the Toronto General Hospital School of Nursing, and subsequently the University of Western Ontario. Then completing a diploma in cardiology and cardiovascular nursing from Vanderbilt University.

She retired after 35 years of Intensive Care nursing, which took her from the far North to the deep South and satisfied her intense interest in caring for the most challenging of cases with sensitivity and compassion.

She travelled extensively in North America and Europe in search of the wonders of nature. After retirement she and Bill, always by her side with his love and support, set out to repay the debt they had to nature; for nature gave them everything they needed to live a happy successful life. And so, together, planting thousands of trees and returning a pasture into a forest. Create a passion, called “A place of peace,” “a state of mind.”

At Lynn’s request there will be no visitation or funeral. Cremation has taken place. Donations to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.
