Petronella (Nelly) Segeren. Long-time resident of Lakeside, Ontario, Nelly died Friday, August 30th, 2019 at St.Marys General Hospital in Kitchener.
Born April 22nd, 1928 in Made, Netherlands, Nelly trained as seamstress and was married to Sjaan Segeren in Holland before immigrating to Canada in 1953. They settled in Staffa, Ontario where they had a farm and raised eight children. The family moved to Lakeside in 1970, where they operated the Lakeside Summer Resort. Nelly continued to work as a seamstress throughout her life, working for many years at the Jean Connection in St.Marys and from her home in Lakeside. She was a very strong and determined woman, yet at the same time, incredibly kind, generous and positive, which made her a dear friend and neighbour to so many. There was nothing Nelly wouldn’t do for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the centre of family life, and her unfailing love, wisdom and care will continue to inspire and bring comfort to the many loved ones she leaves behind.
Nelly is survived by her sister, Riet Prins, brother-in-law John Segeren (Corry), children, Astrid Segeren-Wagner, Wilma Segeren, Cathy Segeren Kivell (John), Agnes Segeren-Pethick (Brian), Adrian Segeren (Marnie), Tim Segeren (Peggy), and Randy Segeren (Karen), 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Sjaan, son Anthony, daughter-in-law Judy, and son-in-law, Dave.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the River Garden Retirement Residence in Stratford, where Nelly lived comfortably and was well cared for in her final years.
