Carol Jean McKenzie (Spencley) passed away peacefully on December 8, 2016 at University Hospital in London, Ontario, with her family by her side, at the age of 75. She was the beloved wife of her Collingwood high school sweetheart Blaine Everett McKenzie until his death in 2006. She will be profoundly missed by their three children, Lisa-Dawn (Stan), Susan Q. (Leonard), and James Allan, and seven grandchildren, McKenzie, Alexandra, Carleigh, Neil, Holly, Susannah and Benjamin.
Born in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Carol was the first child and only daughter of Harry and Jean Spencley (Walter). She enjoyed a rewarding career caring for others after graduating from Royal Victoria Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse, and served the Collingwood community over many years, in many ways, including The Women’s Progress Club and the Ladies Shrine Club. For the last decade, Carol was an active resident of the town of St. Marys, Ontario and served as a member of the McConnell Club.
A voracious reader, Carol was very appreciative of the home delivery book service offered by the St. Marys Public Library. Donations in Carol’s memory can be made to the Friends of the Library at the St. Marys Public Library, 15 Church Street North, St. Marys, Ontario, N4X 1B4.
A memorial service for family and friends will take place on Sunday, December 18 at Zion Lutheran Church, 202 Erie St, Stratford, at 2:00 p.m.
