Funeral homes today typically use three types of cars: a lead car (sedan) for leading funeral processions and transporting ministers, a minivan for initial transport of a deceased person from place of death to the funeral home, transporting a deceased person to a crematorium and on funeral days, transporting flowers and other items to set up for church funerals and delivering flowers after funerals, and the traditional hearse for transporting a deceased person in a casket to a cemetery or crematorium.
The All Purpose Funeral Service Vehicle combines all three:
For initial transfers from place of death, the back window panels are removable so that the vehicle to still be discreet when arriving at hospitals or nursing homes. The removable cot mate allows for a secure place for a stretcher.
For funerals that involve casket burial, the casket floor is identical to any traditional hearse, with one exception, that is folds back to give access to the second row of seating and metal trays that can be used for transporting flowers or an urn.
Additional features of this vehicle option are that the cost of a funeral is reduced, as is the carbon dioxide emissions with one car taking the place of three cars.
